2000 South Ocean

Advanced Access Control and Smart Building Integration for a Luxury Oceanfront Tower
Hallandale Beach, Florida
2020 – 2021

Project Overview

2000 South Ocean is a luxury oceanfront residential tower designed to deliver a modern, technology-enabled living environment while maintaining the refined architectural character of a high-end coastal property. SDI was engaged to design the building’s integrated security and building technology systems, including access control, surveillance infrastructure, and audio-visual and lighting control design.

A key element of the project involved coordinating advanced access technologies with the building’s elevator systems, creating a streamlined and secure experience for residents moving through the property.

Challenge

Implementing advanced building technology within a luxury residential tower requires careful coordination between security systems, building infrastructure, and user experience. For 2000 South Ocean, the project required integration between facial recognition access systems and the building’s destination-drive elevator technology, allowing residents to move efficiently through the property without traditional credential checks at each transition point.

The challenge was to create a system that delivered this level of technological sophistication while maintaining reliable security protocols and preserving the refined architectural environment expected in a high-end oceanfront residence.

Process

SDI designed a coordinated technology framework that connected access control, surveillance infrastructure, and building automation systems throughout the property. Facial recognition technology was integrated with the access control system and elevator destination interface, enabling residents to approach the elevator bank and be automatically directed to the appropriate elevator.

Surveillance infrastructure was deployed across key circulation areas to support security monitoring, while audio-visual and lighting control systems were incorporated into the broader building technology design. The result was a unified platform that integrated multiple building technologies into a seamless operational system.

Impact

The completed system provides residents with a modern, streamlined building experience that combines advanced technology with strong security infrastructure. Residents can move through the building using facial recognition credentials that coordinate directly with elevator access, reducing friction while maintaining secure building circulation.

Property management benefits from a centralized technology environment capable of monitoring security systems and managing building operations efficiently. The project demonstrates how advanced integration can enhance both security and resident experience within a contemporary luxury residential tower.

Modern residential towers increasingly rely on advanced building technologies to provide both security and convenience for residents. At 2000 South Ocean, SDI developed a technology strategy that integrated access control, surveillance systems, and smart building infrastructure into a cohesive platform.

The design focused on creating a seamless resident experience while maintaining strong security coverage throughout the property, ensuring that technology systems supported both operational efficiency and the architectural integrity of the building.
