Wynwood Plaza (Amazon HQ)

Integrated Security and Low-Voltage Design for a Mixed-Use Development
Miami, Florida
2023 – 2026

Project Overview

Wynwood Plaza is a large-scale mixed-use development in Miami’s Wynwood district that combines residential living, commercial space, and the regional headquarters for Amazon. SDI was engaged to provide low-voltage consulting and system design for the project, supporting security, access control, and building technology infrastructure across both the office and residential environments.

The development includes more than 500 residential units alongside high-traffic commercial spaces, requiring a cohesive technology strategy that could manage tenant access, visitor flow, and building operations within a single integrated platform.

Challenge

Wynwood Plaza presented a complex integration challenge due to the combination of residential units and a major corporate office tenant within a single development. The building required security systems that could support the daily flow of employees entering the Amazon headquarters while also managing residential access, guest entry, and service personnel throughout the property.

In addition, the design needed to integrate with modern destination-drive elevator systems and building entry points to ensure efficient vertical transportation and secure access control. Creating a seamless experience for residents, employees, and visitors required careful coordination between multiple building technologies.

Process

SDI developed a coordinated technology design that integrated access control, surveillance, and visitor management systems across both the residential and office portions of the development. The design incorporated credential-based access control systems alongside turnstiles and destination-drive elevator technology to streamline movement through the building while maintaining strong security controls. CCTV infrastructure was strategically distributed throughout key circulation areas to provide comprehensive monitoring without disrupting the architectural design.

By coordinating system architecture early in the planning process, SDI created a cohesive infrastructure capable of supporting the diverse operational needs of a large mixed-use property.

Impact

The integrated technology infrastructure at Wynwood Plaza provides secure and efficient access management for both residential and corporate occupants while maintaining smooth circulation throughout the building. Residents, employees, and visitors benefit from streamlined entry processes and coordinated elevator access, while property management teams gain improved oversight of security and operational systems.

The scalable low-voltage architecture ensures the development can adapt to evolving tenant and technology needs, supporting the long-term functionality of one of Miami’s most prominent mixed-use projects.

Modern mixed-use developments require technology systems that can support multiple user groups while maintaining a consistent security and operational framework. At Wynwood Plaza, SDI worked to design a unified low-voltage infrastructure capable of supporting residential tenants, office employees, building staff, and visitors moving through the property every day. The goal was to ensure security and access systems operated seamlessly across different areas of the development while maintaining efficient circulation throughout the building.
